TransportError / no logs

Matt Dorn Jan 27, 2019 07:37AM +03

Hello,

I have a Python script that uses the elasitcsearch library to reindex my database by creating a new index. It has been working fine for many months, but a few weeks ago it began to return an error with no useful traceback:

> elasticsearch.exceptions.TransportError: TransportError(500, u'{"error_id":"eeca301a-e220-4531-b9cc-4dccc0bc9d05","errors":[{"code":10,"message":"An error occurred while fulfilling the request"}]}')

I thought that digging into the ES logs on Searchly might help give me more info about the problem, but when I click on the "Logs" tab, all I see is a blank page beneath "Elasticsearch Error Logs - Recent 50 Lines".

Any ideas/help?

Hi Matt,

Any chance to share code section leads to that issue ?

Sure, but only a redacted version of it, because the index_config is a large dictionary. See below. Strangely a new index does get created in spite of the error.

Shouldn't I see items in my "Elasticsearch Logs" in Searchly regardless of what's going on here?

Again all of this was working fine until a few weeks ago.

Python code:

from elasticsearch import Elasticsearch # using v 5.4.0
ELASTICSEARCH = 'https://site:f85...@nori-us-east-1.searchly.com' # REDACTED
es = Elasticsearch(ELASTICSEARCH, use_ssl=True)
new_index = 'MY_NEW_INDEX'
index_config = {} # THIS IS A ACTUALLY A LARGE DICT WITH analysis, filter, analyzer, ETC.
es.indices.create(index=new_index, body=index_config, request_timeout=10) # THIS IS THE LINE THAT THROWS THE ERROR

Hi Matt,

You are not able to see logs thus error is thrown at proxy level (I know that is odd and seems it is good time to serve both to customer).

Can you please send email to support@searchly.com with same account detail so we can check ? Something seems broken, you should never get 500 error from proxy.

Best,
Ferhat
